Post Tenebras Lux
With lockdowns and tiers or levels becoming a way of life, I was inspired to do this pencil drawing. The view is from indoors where it's dark and time passes slowly. I'm working on an inspired drawing but my thoughts and sights are to the outdoors where I want to be free, chasing dreams and adventures with my love by my side. We may not actually be prisoners in our homes but the current restrictions by authorities are certainly curtailing our freedoms and we can only pray tha

Penwork
Can it actually be 3 months since my last post?! This Covid business certainly plays havoc with all sense of time. In my last post, I related how I had turned a corner with my pencil work. Since then, I've also made progress with my pen work. Again, with rather more time on my hands, I've been able to be less hurried with my work and spend extra hours on detail. I did a couple of small drawings with limited results but these larger A3 sized drawings are more in line with the

Alpiglen Art YouTube Channel
So I've made the plunge and created my own channel on YouTube called Alpiglen Art. I'm hoping to showcase my art, techniques and associated subjects. I'm not sure how often I'll create videos (seeing as this one took longer than I'd imagined) but I'll try to get into the pattern of it. So here it is, my first video showing "How I create Pencil Drawings". Enjoy.

On a Lockdown Roll
Since my last post, I've been thoroughly enjoying my new found love for smooth paper surface and have been working on more drawings. Since I can't get out due to corona lockdown, I'm travelling Europe through my pencils, hence the rather mixed locations of these drawings. All works are 16x13 inches in size. I should add that while I take as good a photo as I can of these and process them digitally, pencil is really best seen in its original. Something of the subtlety and tona

Revelation
Warning: arty geek mode ahead. When I picked up my pencils again after a hiatus of many years, I took to looking online to see what other pencil artists were doing and to see if they had any recommendations. Aside from the actual pencils and techniques, it became apparent that they all had preferences for various textures in their papers. Indeed, for colour pencils, pastel paper was becoming the favourite for many but one attempt by myself immediately told me that pastel pape

Nearly There
Not as far as this Coronavirus lockdown goes, unfortunately, but the title of a new painting. As a self-employed artist, I'm well used to self isolation, working from home and painting or drawing in quiet solitude. Not that I flee from company and I'm always happy to see my family return from work/school, but I have never regretted not working in a busy environment. However, I am aware that everyone is different and many people cannot stand being confined to a small space, ev

New Additions
Two new digital artworks available, based upon the style of "This Way & That". These are inspired by summer days spent outdoors in the countryside with a low light casting long shadows and colours that you don't find in the compact cities.

Posters & Merchandise
My new Lake posters are now available here online as well as at Cherrydidi galleries in Ambleside and Keswick. Also available online through the RedBubble website are gifts such as cushions, mugs, coasters, bags, travel mugs, clothing, etc., all with any of the Lake designs. Going by the photos below, they look great! This is the link to the online store: Alpiglen RedBubble Store

Lake District Posters
I'm excited to announce new designs for posters that I'll be producing for 2020. Based on of the best known lakes in the Lake District, these designs each have their own colour base so that they can work as a set in any grouping. Initially, they'll be available as A3 size posters but I hope to have them available as gifts such as coasters, travel mugs, bags, etc. Just now I'm looking to get feedback on people's thoughts but the posters will be available by the end of January

Scrooge
Cumbrian scenes have been very much my theme these past months but I do need to have a break now and again. Being the season of good cheer, I decided to spread my wings a little with a touch of drama, in this case Charles Dicken's classic A Christmas Carol. I wanted something with atmosphere, color and fog, so what better than Scrooge pacing down the street, which in this case is The Shambles in York (yes, I know it should be London). So can you spot the 3 ghosts? Or Jacob Ma
