 About me

Hello. I am a self-taught artist and illustrator based in Scotland and have worked freelance in art for many years. My preferred media are pen and pencil, including graphite and archival oil-based coloured pencils. My drawings frequently depict landscapes, townscapes and architecture from Scotland, Britain and Europe, ranging from recognisable places to re-imagined and entirely imaginary scenes.

For many years I also had a strong connection with Cumbria and the Lake District, where my contemporary digital artwork was sold in Keswick and Ambleside for over ten years. Following changes in that market, including gallery closures and the increasing use of AI-generated imagery, I decided to bring that chapter of my work to a close and return my attention to the traditional drawing techniques I most enjoy.

More recently, I have been concentrating on my own distinctive style of mixed pen and pencil work, particularly detailed monochrome drawings inspired by places I have visited on my travels. Rather than always reproducing a scene exactly as it appears, I often combine observation with memory and imagination, rearranging or adding elements to create my own interpretation of a place.

Much of the enjoyment for me lies in detail, texture and light. I am particularly drawn to the textures found in old stonework, weathered buildings, trees, water and natural landscapes, and to the challenge of suggesting these surfaces with little more than pen and pencil. Light is equally important to me, especially the quieter and more atmospheric light of dusk and moonlight, when familiar places can take on an entirely different character.

All of my available artwork can be purchased here on my website, either as original artwork or as fine art prints.

I am also available for commission work.
