A Challenge

Ampersand Claybord is fast becoming my favourite surface to work on. So much so that I set myself a challenge to draw an artwork that had a mix of light, shadows, reflections, perspective, shapes, depth and textures. Venice is always a city that can accommodate all these at any given corner. It took me a while to get the perspective right which was tricky since the viewer is looking downwards and the whole image is at an angle to add some extra atmosphere and drama. Being a pen and ink drawing too meant that there was little room for error. However, I'm particularly pleased with the final result and have learnt a lot during the process.

This is "Rain in Venice", pen and ink on Claybord, 12x16".
