I’ve been indulging myself in this original artwork of a fantasy forest over the past few weeks. This is pen and India ink rendered using techniques that I’ve been practising with over the past year with pen brushes and technical pens onto Claybord. I feel I’m really getting into my stride with this and more confident in what I can achieve. That’s the great thing about being creative. Always learning and pushing the boundaries.
I love deep dark forests with glimpses of mountains and misty lakes and this drawing started with from a photograph of a big old tree leaning across the landscape. The medieval figures just seem more fitting than modern day hikers which gave the artwork a more fantasy look. While I'm not particularly into the fantasy genre, I do have a particular fondness for the classic Arthurian legend, even though it's more of a Victorian creation.
