There's a path that leads up towards the castle in the Austrian city of Salzburg which gives a view over the rooftops and church towers towards the lower mountains and seems so timeless in its setting. I first saw it on a crisp Autumn day but I knew it would really suit a scene in falling winter snow, perhaps a blizzard, and I fancied that I saw Mozart (Salzburg being his birthplace) trudging through the thick cold while the winds whipped the flakes around him. I cheated by moving the castle around a bit having the peak of the Watzmann mountain (actually seen from nearby Berchtesgaden) shining through a break in the cloud. Pure fantasy but this pencil drawing captures the essence of Salzburg in snow.
