There are certain sounds that I associate with towns and cities in Italy such as passing vespas, random voices from open windows, cries of "Ciao!" from parting friends and of course, the shrieks of swifts or swallows as they dart between the tall eaves. I wondered how they viewed the sights below as they flew overhead and a drawing of them above the beautiful Tuscan town of San Gimignano, far above the famed towers, seemed an appropriate theme.
