For a small crowded country, the Netherlands has some of the most serene places anywhere. This one is at the edge of Edam, famed for its red waxed cheese. Off frame to the right is a small traditional white timber framed bascule bridge. The Dutch barges always have leeboards on their sides to act as keels in shallow waters.
