The Roman Forum in Rome. It was hard to believe that for several centuries, this was was the controlling centre of an empire that stretched from the Middle East to central Scotland. The remnant columns and arches echo the power that was held here, leaving remnants down to the modern age in our art, architecture, language and governance.
This is a very popular viewpoint of the forum and seemed a bit unoriginal to draw but I saw this at dusk and loved the way that the dark columns framed the spotlit arch in the centre, casting all depths of shadows around the scene.
THIS ARTWORK IS AN ORIGINAL COMPLETED WITH PEN AND INDIA INK ON Bristol 500 paper. THE IMAGE ITSELF IS 393x290mm.
