This actually came from a memory of a visit to the beautiful city of Venice. On that particular day, the rain in Venice was incessant but at night it created lots of glistening surfaces. At one point I was walking down this narrow passage with the intricate railings casting shadows on the ground when I saw this young woman in a long black coat and umbrella walking towards me. It just seemed like a scene from a movie like the Third Man and the image stayed with me until I eventually felt inspired to put it down in ink.
