This fine art print is based on my original artwork depicting a colourful street in Éguisheim, Alsace, France. With its winding cobbled streets, timber-framed houses and colourful façades, the village is almost impossibly picturesque — the sort of place that makes you wonder whether you're walking through a real French village or have somehow wandered onto the set of a Disney film.
The Alsace region has a fascinating character of its own, shaped by its position between France and Germany and its close cultural connections with both. The architecture, streets and villages have a distinctly different feel from many other parts of France, making Alsace an endlessly inspirational place for an artist.
This particular scene captures one of the charming streets of Éguisheim, with its colourful half-timbered buildings, cobbled pathway and unmistakable character.
There is, however, one small artistic liberty. The horse isn't actually there. I decided the scene needed one, and sometimes an artist has to be allowed a little creative licence.
