The last of three drawings based on a poem called “Ithaka’ (or Ithaca) by C.P.Cavafy, a Greek poet of the early 20th century. Ithaka is based on the homeward journey of Odysseus in Homer’s “Odyssey” but it really is about the journey of life for each of us. In the midst of a turbulent world I just love how positive this poem is and how we need to lift our eyes from all the gloomy news.
 
Being the last, we are nearing our destination in life - old age. The quote says:
“And if you find her poor, Ithaka hasn’t deceived you.
So wise you have become, of such experience,
that already you’ll have understood what these Ithakas mean.”
 
I’m not at the old age yet but it’s within sight unfortunately. The body may be starting to creak but I have memories and experiences that give me an inner life of gratitude and hope. And I hope that I’ve passed some of that optimism through this project.
