This original artwork is an imagined, timeless coastal scene inspired by the Amalfi Coast of Italy and the sense of adventure that comes with setting off towards somewhere unknown.
The dramatic coastline, Mediterranean setting and tools of maritime navigation come together to create a scene that is as much about the journey as the destination. Maps, navigational instruments and other reminders of seafaring suggest preparation for a voyage, while the distant horizon invites the imagination to wonder what might lie beyond it.
For me, the excitement of a holiday begins long before arriving at the destination. There is something special about the preparation and planning – looking at maps, working out a route and imagining the places that might be discovered along the way. That anticipation is part of the adventure.
Although inspired by the Amalfi Coast, this is not intended to represent one particular location. Instead, it captures an idealised Mediterranean landscape and my own feeling of wanderlust, exploration and setting off towards unknown horizons.
